Taha Hussien .. project for the future
Dean of contemporary Arabic literature and a pioneer of Enlightenment, Taha Hussein posed the problem of the future of the culture and left us a great cultural legacy that can be invested in rebuilding our cultural present, which we are witnessing today. As one of the pillars of Egyptian and Arab Enlightenment, the Dean has had a great influence over the modern cultural movement in the Arab world and on Egypt's Renaissance Movement in particular. This gives his enlightenment project a great importance among the cultural elites and educational and intellectual institutions, formal and informal. Although 50 years have passed since his death, nevertheless, Taha Hussein's project for modernity continues to accompany us as we touch on the issues of culture, education, enlightenment, and everything related to the values of modernity and renewal. Hence the responsibility of restoring his ideas aimed at building a modernist and enlightenment critical mind that accepts, discusses, and debates with argument and proof, which is what we lack in minds that still believe in exclusion.
The cultural programme "Taha Hussein .. Project Future " is an investment in this great momentum, which was created by Taha Hussein in thought and culture, and is based on his systematic vision to promote the education system in Egypt and achieve leadership, which is in line with the objectives of the Dr. Gamal Shiha Foundation for Education, Culture, and Sustainable Development. Accordingly, The Foundation took the face of Dr. Taha Hussein with his well-known glasses as its logo and announced the launch of the programme throughout the year 2023, starting next Saturday, January 28.
The programme’s activities throughout the year will include a number of (seminars, theatrical performances, book printing, workshops, plastic exhibitions, and film screenings) in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Supreme Council for Culture, which Taha Hussein represents as a national project that we revive by addressing it from several angles and values that we believe in and seek to achieve and transfer to Egypt and our Arab world; and that’s what Gamal Sheha Foundation for Education, Culture, and Sustainable Development is about.
